Invitation to Applicants for Admission to the Postgraduate Programme “Communication Networks and Systems Security”

The Department of Informatics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.) announces that during the academic year 2023-2024 the Postgraduate Programme “Communication Networks and Systems Security” will accept applications. The Programme comprises two specializations, i.e., “Communication Networks” and “Systems Security”.

Candidates are invited to apply for admission to the Postgraduate Programme:

  1. All candidates with an undergraduate degree form universities of the country, graduates of the Faculty of Sciences, Polytechnics, and other Departments of Universities of related fields. Graduates who do not have the necessary knowledge background may apply to be selected as postgraduate students in probation, provided that in a period that cannot exceed the first two (2) semesters, they will acquire the required basic knowledge.
  2. Students of undergraduate programs from Departments in related fields, who are in the last semester of their undergraduate studies and are expected to complete their studies by the end of the registration period at Postgraduate Programme.
  3. Holders of undergraduate degrees from foreign Institutions with a subject related to Informatics as long aw the foreign Institution is included in the National Register of Recognized Higher Education Institutions published by DOATAP.
  4. Members of the E.E.P., E.D.I.P. categories and E.T.E.P. who work at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as long as they meet the conditions of the first paragraph of article 34 of Law 4485/2017. These candidates can register beyond the maximum number of students and only one per year, provided the title of their studies and the work they perform are related to the Programme.

The number of admissions to the Postgraduate Programme is limited to a maximum of forty (40) students.

Classes are held in the afternoon, Monday to Friday.

Required documents:

  1. Application (electronic, accessible from the Programme’s website),
  2. CV,
  3. Copy of the undergraduate degree or diploma,
  4. Copies of any other recognized graduate degree,
  5. Record of detailed grades of the undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses,
  6. Grade of the diploma thesis, where this is provided in the undergraduate studies,
  7. Evidence of at least good knowledge of the English language for Greeks or of Greeks for foreign candidates (level B2),
  8. Publications (Journals or conferences) (if any),
  9. Any evidence of professional or research experience (duration and subject),
  10. Two (2) names and contact details of academic staff or employers who intend to provide letters of recommendation for the candidate,
  11. Photocopy of his/her ID/Passport,
  12. Photo ID type,
  13. Statement selecting his/her specialization (“Communications Networks” or “Systems Security” options).

Candidates, who are in the last year of their undergraduate studies (in accordance with the Internal Regulation Guide) can participate in the selection process by presenting, instead of a copy of their diploma, a record of studies accompanied by the analytical grades in their courses. The finalization of their registration will take place after graduation with a copy of their degree.

The selection criteria are grouped into five categories, each category is evaluated on a scale of 0-10 and the individual evaluations are weighted with weighting factors to come up with the score of the candidates. In particular, the following are considered:

  1. The GPA of the undergraduate degree, the type of degree and the quality of the candidate’s analytical score with an emphasis on his/her performance in courses related to the programme with a weighting factor of 35%. The minimum grade of the undergraduate degree or diploma must be at least six (6) on a 0-10 scale (or equivalent if another grading scale applies).
  2. The personal interview, the evaluation of the candidate’s CV and the ranking of the candidate among his/her fellow students with a weighting factor of 25%.
  3. Possible published work of the candidate with a weighting factor of 20%.
  4. The candidate’s English language skills with a weighting factor of 10%.
  5. The general research or professional experience with a weighting factor of 10%
